On May 31st 2016, the A320neo equipped with CFM International’s LEAP-1A engines has received the Type Certification from both the EASA and FAA on schedule.
The certification paves the way for the delivery of the first A320neo equipped with the second engine option.
The two LEAP-powered aircraft assigned to the flight test campaign have now accumulated over 1,000 flight hours, 350 of which in an airline-like environment to ensure operational maturity at entry into service, in more than 350 flights.
Certification of the other members of the A320neo family equipped with CFM engines will come in the following months. After all the flight tests will be completed, the test fleet, equipped with both engines, will have achieved more than 3,000 flight hours.
The A320neo family, composed of the A319neo, A320neo and A321neo) offers two engine choices: the Pratt & Whitney Pure Power PW1100G-JM and the CFM LEAP-1A engines. The seating range of the A320neo family is between 100 and 240 passengers with range up to 4,000nm.
