Indonesia AirAsia X to pull out of Australian market

Indonesia AirAsia X is pulling out of the Australian marker as part of a network restructuring aimed at increasing its operational efficiency.

The long haul budget carrier will have operated its last regular flights from Denpasar to Melbourne and Sidney by September 1 of this year, after a two year stint in the market.

Local media reports state Indonesia AirAsia X has faced stiff competition from the likes of Garuda Indonesia, Tigerair Australia and Jetstar Airways.

Indonesia AirAsia X operates five A320-200s and two A330-300s on regular flights to Jakarta, Solo City, Surabaya and Yogyakarta domestically and Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Bangkok and Jeddah internationally. It is expected to be merged with sister carrier Indonesia AirAsia later this year.
