The HNA Group will take delivery of two A350-900s originally destined for Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras as part of a 2014 leasing agreement with AerCap for five of the type.
The president of the Brazilian LCC told Bloomberg that the two aircraft were part of a trio originally to be delivered in 2018. As of right now, Azul will add two A350-900s next year, with only one due an year later.
The move is part of a series of capacity cuts Azul is planning because of last year’s traffic reductions. Thus far tweet aircraft part of the fleet have been removed from service. Those include an A330-200, six ATR72-600 and eleven EMB-190 moved to sister carrier TAP Portugal, while three other aircraft have been returned to their lessors.
