Garuda Indonesia CEO Aria Wibowo says New York JFK and Los Angeles Int’l may be the first US destinations to be launched in the event Indonesia regains Category 1 status with the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
In an interview with the Antara news agency, Wibowo said that flights to both destinations would be operated with B777-300(ER) aircraft with a stopover in Tokyo Narita.
Currently flights operate by Garuda with B777 aircraft are unable to operate with maximum loads because of weight restrictions at its hub, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta. As a result, long haul flights are forced to do stopovers, Garuda’s flights to London and Amsterdam, for example, are operated with stopovers in Singapore.
Indonesia expects the outcome of its latest FAA audit to be known by the end of next month.
