Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EFW), EADS business unit specialized in aircraft conversions and modifications, and DHL Express has announced yesterday at the 2016 Farnborough International Airshow the signature of the launch order for the Airbus A330-300P2F (passenger-to-freighter) conversion program.
The contract includes the conversion of four Airbus A330-300 passenger planes to a 26-pallet cargo configuration, which will carry up to 61 metric tonnes of payload.
The first of these four aircraft (Apollo Aviation’s G-CIOH, MSN 116, an ex-Malaysia Airlines plane) will enter into conversion this month and deliveries will start by the end of 2017.
This conversion program was launched in 2012 as a collaboration between Airbus, EFW and ST Aerospace. It includes two variants, the A330-200P2F and the A330-300P2F, just like the passenger version its based on.
The first order for the program was announced in December 2014, as Egyptair Cargo had made an order for the conversion of two A330-200s plus two options. These aircraft will be delivered in 2018.
