The Austrian Federal Ministry For Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT) has raised a complaint with Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) over the sale of Moscow-Vienna “flights” by Pobeda.
In a bilateral meeting between the two countries the BMVIT expressed its concern over the fact that Pobeda is not a designated carrier and is therefore not entitled to traffic rights under Austria’s Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) with Russia.
Though the Russian LCC does not serve Vienna per se, it offers the city as a destination of its Fly&Bus package flights. This package comprehends a flight from Moscow’s Vnukovo airport to Bratislava, where passengers board a bus to Vienna Hauptbahnhof (Vienna’s Central Station), 80km away from Bratislava.
The Austrian delegation requested that the Russian delegation will take steps to stop such operations.
A similar service to Zurich also exists, wherein passengers take a bus to the Swiss commercial hub from the German airport of Memmingen.
