Aeroflot cedes B787 order rights

Aeroflot Group’s board has voted in favor of transferring all the purchase rights and obligations for the twenty-two B787 Family aircraft it had on order to a local Russian lessor, Avia Capital Services.

According to TASS, the lessor is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Russia’s Rostec state corporation.

Since the order for B787s with Boeing was announced in 2007, it has proven a headache for the Russian operator. Not only did the B787-8’s early teething problems delay its entry into service, but the imposition of US and EU-sponsored sanctions in 2014 has also severely curtails Russian demand for foreign travel.

As a result, the delivery of the first Dreamliners had been put back several times, the latest being from the period 2016-2019 to 2017-2019 before the order was cancelled at the 2015 Paris Air Show.
