Singapore Airlines to begin retirements of the A380 by Q4 of 2017

The Singaporean carrier said in a statement that the aircraft would be returned to the lessor as part of a regular review of its fleet requirements.

Singapore Airlines has four more aircraft of the type, from the same era, whose leases are due to expire in the coming months. A decision conceding them has yet to be made.

In total, Singapore Airlines operates nineteen A380-800s the bulk of which are owned outright by the airline. The remainder are shared between DS Aviation (four), WealthCap (three), Hannover Leasing (one), and Doric Asset Finance (one). Singapore Airlines firmed up purchase rights to the last five A380s it has on order from Airbus Industrie (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) in October 2012.
