The low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines has become the first US airline to take delivery of an A320neo after taking delivery of N901NK (MSN 6833) at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
The aircraft, on lease from AerCap, is the first of the 55 it has on order, with four more expected to arrive by the end of the year.
The aircraft is equipped with the Pratt & Whitney PurePower PW1100G-JM engines, which caused delays in the delivery. Th aircraft had, in fact, emerged from the Final Assembly Line nearly a year ago.
The aircraft has the same configuration of the airline’s A320ceos, with 182 seats arranged in a high-density layout, including two rows of the Big Front Seats.
Initial scheduled flights are projected to be early November, with initial destinations to be announced. Spirit will become the 3rd operator in the Americas following LATAM and Viva Aerobus.
