Donghai Airlines has finalized an order with Boeing for five B787-9s, some weeks after it announced a commitment for twenty-five B737 MAS 8s.
The order comes after the announcement for a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) during this year’s Farnborough International Airshow in July.
“Donghai Airlines has undergone steady development over the past 10 years since the beginning of our freighter operations in 2006,” said Wong Cho-Bau, Chairman, Donghai Airlines. “Under China’s One Belt One Road initiative, we will accelerate our fleet expansion plan to satisfy the rapidly growing air travel market and help build our home base Shenzhen as the transportation hub in southern China.”
The airline, a unit of Sichuan Airlines, started cargo operations in 2006, later expanding into passenger ops in 2014. From then it has expanded its fleet, now operating thirteen B737-800s.
