It was announced this week that Norwegian will be the first airline to fly Boeing’s new 737 MAX, ahead of originally planned launch customer Southwest. The first jet will arrive in May and will enter service not long after that. Taking advantage of its increased range, the new aircraft will be used to launch transatlantic flights between Europe and smaller US cities.
Southwest will take delivery of their first in July and won’t enter into commercial service until October 1st. Southwest is having several problems with the new jet ahead of its entrance into service like labor disputes and fleet compatibility.
There are currently more than 3,400 orders for the new jet, Norwegian has orders for 100 of the new jets with options for several more.
