Etihad Airways announced this week that they will be dropping their route between Abu Dhabi and San Francisco this October due to falling demand. The route had previously been reduced to 3x weekly in February.
Load factors on the flight were becoming quite low and profitability was dropping. The aircraft will instead be used on other, more profitable routes. Affected passengers will be rebooked onto other flights.
The airline will keep flying to its 5 other US destinations, Dallas, New York, Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and Chicago, which the airline believes are profitable enough to continue running.
Not long ago, rival airline Emirates announced it would also be decreasing flights to five US cities. Etihad has operated this route since November 2014.
