Malaysia Airlines has revealed a stunning special livery on one of their Boeing 737 aircraft. The ‘Negaraku’ (Malaysian national anthem) livery features a Malaysian flag decal on the aft section of the fuselage.
In a ceremony at Kuala Lumpur Int’l Airport, Malaysian Prime Minister Mohd Najib Tun Razak was joined by Malaysia Airlines CEO Peter Bellew and several other representatives to reveal the new livery.
The special livery is in conjunction with Merdeka Day, Malaysian independence day, which is on the 31st of August. 2017 marks the 60th anniversary of independence for the country.
Boeing 737-8H6(WL) 9M-MXS (MSN 40156) is the aircraft that features the livery. The Next Generation airliner is fitted with two CFM International CFM56-7B26E turbofan engines and features a C16Y144 two class cabin configuration.
At the ceremony, Mohd Najib Tun Razak also announced proposed plans for the airline. 78 percent of the airlines 6,000 former employees, who were laid off in an aggressive cost cutting revival strategy, have registered for new job opportunities. Of these, 98 percent of them have secured jobs and were also offered other opportunities.
Najib also hopes that Malaysia Airlines will achieve a 5 Star SkyTrax rating by 2018. In a statement, he said:
“In the first phase, our focus was to stabilise the airline’s financial. I was informed by MAB chief executive officer Peter Bellew that the airline company is expected to be back in the black by next year.
For the second phase, our target is to add 11 routes from China and focus on the product differentiation such as the onboard cuisine and flight entertainment.
I was informed that we are on our way to achieve the second phase of the revival. With these measures, I believe that MAB will obtain the five star rating by Skytrax by 2018.”
Peter Bellew also spoke at the event, saying the airline was proud to display the Negaraku livery around the globe:
“We at MAB are working hard to rebuild this great airline, making it once again the pride of the nation. This livery is an important symbol of that pride. As the national carrier, we proudly bear the Negaraku logo on behalf of each and every Malaysian whose flag we represent worldwide,” said Bellew.
9M-MXS is set to fly medium haul routes for Malaysia Airlines, to destinations such as Perth and Shanghai. The aircraft is to be the first of several aircraft to feature the special livery, with hints that one of the airline’s future Airbus A350s will be painted with the same decals.
