Yesterday, July 13th 2017, Delta has become the first operator of the Airbus A350 in North America, following the delivery of N501DL (MSN 115).
A ceremony will be held tomorrow (15th July), but the delivery flight to Atlanta is expected to be on the 4th of August due to the installation of 2Ku wifi.
The aircraft is in a 3-class configuration, featuring a total of 306 seats: 32 Delta One (Business Class) seats, 48 in Delta Premium Select (Premium Economy Class) and 226 in Economy Class.
The aircraft will be moved to Delta’s hub in Detroit (DTW) and will start commercial operations on flights to Tokyo Narita on October 30th. Flights to Seoul Incheon will start on November 18th and flights to Beijing on January 17th, 2018.
The A350 will replace the airline’s last remaining Boeing 747-400s, which are scheduled for retirement by the fourth quarter. Delta anticipates five A350s in its fleet by the end of 2017, and 15 by 2019.
