Low-cost carrier French Blue has announced that it will begin flights to Papeete, Tahiti in French Polynesia after recently receiving government approval. The flight will be operated via San Francisco in the United States, in a similar manner to the flights currently operated to Tahiti by Air France and Air Tahiti Nui which serve the island via Los Angeles.
Flights will begin in May 2018 and operate twice a week at first, increasing to three times a week during the high season. French Blue was founded in 2016 and is a subsidiary of Groupe Dubreuil, which also owns Air Caraïbes. The flights will be operated using the airline’s new Airbus A350-900 aircraft.
