Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 TEN Completes First Test on the Boeing 787

Recently, the new RR Trent 1000 TEN has powered a Boeing 787 Dreamliner for the first time. The flight was a roundtrip journey from Boeing Field, Seattle, Washington (KBFI).

This new Trent variant has also been chosen to power the first Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner next year which has entered the final assembly process at Boeing’s South Carolina plant. According to Rolls-Royce, this means that the Trent 1000 family has first been used on every variant of the Boeing 787.

Trent 1000 Programme Director Gary Moore said: “Our first Trent 1000 TEN flight on the 787 Dreamliner is another great milestone for our programme. I want to thank everyone at Boeing and Rolls-Royce who have worked hard to make this flight happen. In addition, our selection to power the first flight of the 787-10 is a great honour, and reflects our commitment to supporting this aircraft as it continues to evolve.”

Rolls-Royce has also stated that the new engine has powered their flying test bed, a Boeing 747-200B at Tucson, Arizona. The new Trent 1000 TEN (Thrust, Efficiency, and New Technology) is planned to power all variants of the Dreamliner family. The engine borrows developments from the Advance engine program and technology from the Trent XWB engine powering the A350 family.
 As a recap, the first Trent 1000 powered the first 787-8 EIS in 2011 with launch customer ANA, and the first 787-9 in 2014, also with ANA.
